GMC introduces Licence for Locums to Practise Print E-mail
The General Medical Council is changing the way locums and other doctors within the UK are regulated to practise medicine, the GMC says. The first change will come on 16th November 2009 when the GMC introduces the licence to practise for all doctors including those who work for locum agencies
Locums Connect for Temporary UK Medical Staff Jobs Print E-mail
LSUK (Locum Services of the UK), a member of the A24 Group has introduced a web portal, Connect , to enable locum doctors and other qualified medical staff to register on-line for temporary medical jobs and then, once registration is completed, to manage their availability and eligibility for work with the agency, for positions with UK hospitals, GP surgeries and other healthcare providers nationwide. The registration process requires satisfactory completion of a face-to-face interview and full CRB and other credentials and reference checks by LSUK.

Times Up for Working More than 48 Hours Weekly Print E-mail
The European Working Time Directive requires NHS healthcare providers to comply by no later than 1 August 2009 - very few will be able to acquire exemptions. A major increase in demand for locum doctors is anticipated by Locum Services of the UK as a result of the pressures on service providers to comply.
Swine Flu Outbreak Print E-mail
Analysis by a team of leading experts in pandemic outbreak warns that a second wave of swine flu could be 'three times as bad' as the normal seasonal flu. This is expected to impact on the workloads of doctors - who will be affected by the virus too - leading to a surge in demand for locums at short notice, according to Locum Services of the UK.
